When the temps are cold outside and you just can't get outside to play what do you do for fun with your family? Well if you are like me and DO NOT like the cold weather AT ALL you sit inside cooped up going crazy with kids that have a bunch of stored energy. Which makes you go crazy because there is only so much you can do to keep 4 kids busy inside a home. Luckily for us Ohio has some great indoor water-parks within a short driving distance from our home. So we surprised the kids with a surprise weekend getaway at Castaway Bay.
Castaway Bay is located in Sandusky, Ohio just a stone throw away from Cedar Point. The hotel and indoor water-park is open year round. It has many great features for the family including a thrilling water coaster, slides, a wave pool and lots of splash and play areas for the kids. There are 237 rooms and suites at the Castaway Bay Resort. In addition to the rooms, suites and water-park the resort offers a fitness center, a 6,000 square foot arcade, craft and activity center, three restaurants, retail shops, meeting spaces and rooms for birthday parties.
Since the Anderson Family is a large family we got to stay in the Tarpon Suite which is a two room suite. The main room has a King size bed and the other room has two sets of bunk beds which accommodates a family of 6 very nicely and comfortably.
While checking in at the front desk I came across the Crabbie's Quarterdeck Arcade search and find. What you do is go to four different areas in the hotel to find the clues to answer the questions on the form. Once you have found the secret message you can turn your search and find in at the arcade to receive a great reward. The search in find is for ages 3-12 and my kids had a blast doing it. We chose to work on the search in find on our way back to our room after a wonderful and delicious meal at Quaker Steak & Lube. I just have to say that we have been to several Quaker Steak & Lubes including the original over the years and this was the best we have had!
Even though check in is at 4 pm and checkout is at 11 am, you are have full access to the water-park before and after check in/out. So on our checkout day we got up went to breakfast. Had a special guest stop by during breakfast which made the girls trip complete. Then spent the rest of the day just enjoying the water-park. Before we headed out we stopped by Camp Castaway and decorated T-Shirts. At Camp Castaway you are able to decorate T-Shirts, Towels and Bags to give yourself a great keepsake of your trip to Castaway Bay.
