Escape The Winter Cold with Castaway Bay

 .

When it's cold outside and you just can't bring yourself to go outside to play what do you do for fun with your family? We play games and do puzzles but after awhile we get bored with them and start looking for something entertaining to do. I dislike cold weather and typically find myself closed in during the winter going crazy with the kids that have a bunch of stored energy. Luckily for me Ohio has some great indoor water-parks within a short driving distance from our home. So we surprised the kids with our annual weekend getaway to Castaway Bay

Castaway Bay is located in Sandusky, Ohio just a short drive from our home and a stone throw away from Cedar Point. The hotel and indoor water-park is open year round which is a great way to escape the winter cold. It has many great features for the family including a thrilling water coaster, slides, a wave pool and lots of splash and play areas for the kids. There are 237 rooms and suites at the Castaway Bay Resort. In addition to the rooms, suites and water-park the resort offers a fitness center, a 6,000 square foot arcade, craft and activity center, three restaurants, retail shops, meeting spaces and rooms for birthday parties.

Since the Anderson Family is a large family we stay in the Tarpon Suite which is a two room suite. Ours overlooked the bay with a patio which if it was warmer I would be out there sitting. The main room has a King size bed and is very spacious as we had plenty of room to set up the pack n play. The other room has two sets of bunk beds which accommodates the bigger kids well. This suite is perfect for a larger family like ours to fit comfortably. There is also a window in between the two rooms so the adults can keep an eye on the kids easily.

While checking in at the front desk I recommend looking through the flyers on the desk because you can find lots of great information and some fun activities to do as well. After we checked in we went down to have dinner at Quaker Steak & Lube. We had another wonderful and delicious meal at Quaker Steak & Lube this trip. I just have to say that we have been to several Quaker Steak & Lubes including the original over the years and this is still the best we have had!  We then spent the evening in the arcade. The only thing with the arcade is I wish they would allow you to split the tokens up between cards if you buy a package deal. This would allow families to save some money and still get the best deal overall.

Even though check in is at 4 pm and checkout is at 11 am, you are have full access to the water-park before and after check in/out. So you don't have to worry about  missing any fun water-park time as you are allowed in the water-park until it closes on both days. So on our checkout day we get up go to breakfast, pack up and head to the water-park for the day. We love that a special guest always stops by during breakfast which makes the kids trip complete. Before we head out we stop by Camp Castaway and decorated T-Shirts and sometimes cookies if we get there at the right time. At Camp Castaway you are able to decorate T-Shirts, Towels and Bags to give yourself a great keepsake of your trip to Castaway Bay. They also offer fun activities during the day like cookie decorating.
