Our Trip to Hershey, PA

In April my family took a trip over to Hershey, PA for their Springtime In The Park Event. But when we got home I ended being hospitalized twice with complications from my pregnancy so I am just now getting to post about our trip. This was I believe was everyone's first trip over to Hershey, PA, even for my in-laws and brother-in-law who went along as well.

My family stayed at the Hershey Lodge while we were there and I have to say that it is one of the most beautiful places I have ever stayed at. I loved that they have recycling bins placed in all the concession areas and sporadically throughout the lodge. I was surprised though at how small the restaurants, pool and arcade were for such a large lodge. The boys still had a blast even though the pool was small and did not want to get out when it was time for the pool to close. I did like that the pool had a couple lifeguards on duty and also supplied life vests for the smaller children.

Our room was very nice and comfortable! I always worry when staying at places that the beds will not be comfortable, but that was not the case here. The beds were very comfortable which allowed everyone to get a nice nights sleep. This was very important since we were going to be spending the next day at Hershey Park. The decor in the room and bathroom was very nice and fitting for the lodge nothing crazy which I really like.

The day we arrived in Hershey, PA we went to The Hershey Story which is a very neat museum. The kids loved walking through the museum and seeing all the different machines used to make the chocolate. I have to say that the two machines displayed were Bubba and Pumpkins favorite parts of the museum. The museum had so much information on Mr. Hershey, the company, and all the good Mr. Hershey did for the community. I really enjoyed strolling through the museum and feel that is a MUST see attraction while in Hershey.

After having a fun day at the museum and swimming we were ready for our next adventure to begin: Spending the day at Hershey Park and The Zoo of America. Since it was still Spring we didn't have to worry about being too hot while at the parks. When we first arrived in the morning it was still chilly out but it warmed up very nice come afternoon. The kids really enjoyed riding all the rides and seeing some of the Hershey Characters walking around. I really liked that when you first get into the park where the rides are they have height measuring stations for the children and they give them a wristband that states which height requirements they meet. So when the kids go to get on rides the people running the ride doesn't have to stop and measure the kids, they just check the wristbands. I also liked that we got to enter Zoo of America for free since we were entering from the Park. The zoo was a nice change of pace with the kids instead of running from ride to ride we got to take a nice stroll and look at some beautiful animals. Like the lizard in the picture below that was playing with Pumpkin.

There was so much to do while at the park you really need a couple days to do it all if you have kids. I know that Sweet Pea could have just spent the day on the carousel and swings she enjoyed them so much. Bubba would have spent all day in the bumper cars and Pumpkin loved riding the planes that went up and down. I love making special memories with my kids and I am sure that this is one trip that won't forget. I know that I sure won't!

We ended the day and trip by visiting Hershey's Chocolate World. I must say that I have never seen so many sweets and chocolates in one place before. While there you will want to make sure you ride their Great American Chocolate Tour. The boys loved the ride so much that they rode it twice, once with us and then once with their Nana and Papa. By this time Sweet Pea had too much excitement and crashed. At the end of the tour you are given your own mini Hershey bar to enjoy and I think that was the boys favorite part of the tour. But come on, who doesn't love FREE chocolate...

The next time you are looking for something fun to do with your family I would really recommend checking into taking the family to Hershey, PA! There are so many wonderful things to do and see with the family while there. We did not get to do everything while we were there so I am sure we will go back in the future when we can stay longer so we can truly enjoy all there is to do in Hershey, PA.
